SOA record missing
- SOA
- Start of Authority
The Start of Authority record describes the DNS zone and should exist on authoritative servers.
What is an SOA record?
The Start of Authority record identifies the primary authority for a DNS zone and contains timing values used by secondary nameservers and caches. Every correctly served DNS zone has one.
What to do next
- Open the zone at your DNS provider.
- Check that the zone is active and authoritative for the domain.
- Ask the provider to repair the zone if the SOA remains absent.
How to verify the fix
Query the domain for its SOA record from an independent resolver.
When this result may be wrong
Resolvers may return incomplete data during delegation changes or an outage.
